Took shitty overnight flight. Food was good, free wine. But cramped economy class seats and backpain does not fit with a 9 hour flight. Was good to stretch my legs. Customs was a breeze, Auckland international isn't some shitty 3rd world airport where you have to bribe everyone to get things moving.
Met the guy from the university whom was here to pick me up. Nice fellow. Probably not gonna see him again for a year or so. Stepped out of the airport proper and was hit by an blast of refreshing cold air. Felt good.
Arrived at the hostel, started to unpack and get things settled in. Met some people who were having a BBQ. Sun is pretty harsh...harsher than in Singapore. Didn't plan to do much on the first day, but ended up going along with a girl i met at the BBQ to a nearby place called "The Warehouse" to buy some stuff. When you go overseas like this, there's a lot you can't bring with you. Started to space out near the end because i didn't really sleep on the plane. Bought some subway on the way back for dinner. First impressions of food : expensive. Well, the subway price is roughly the same as Singapore, but everyone else was expensive. We are talking in the range of, oh, $9-$10 for most stuff.
Night was unbelivably cold. It was like getting stabbed constantly with ice knives. Blanket was toasty warm but mouldy(i wonder how long it's been since it got washed...?). Most of the people here seem to be post-graduate students, did manage to find one girl taking the same degree as me though.
